| Where do we start? |
You should be familiar with and know where to find, various regulations to do with taught and MPhil/PhD courses. The Registry site for current students is a good place to look. You should make sure you are familiar with the procedures and regulations described there. |
| What is the address and telephone number here? |

| How do I find people in UCL? |
- Go to the UCL home page.
There is a link to 'directory'(down to the left under 'quick links' where you can search for staff members and
post-docs, their email, telephone and location details. It's generally worth navigating to their department for
further details, moreso with staff.

| How can I find a map of UCL? |
|
| How do I send mail? |
- use one of the internal envelopes for internal post and place
in the red wire basket in Rachel's office.
- If external post, relevant to college business, you don't need
a stamp, it will be franked by the college postal service. Mark
envelope as first/second class or airmail as appropriate and place
in the red wire basket in Rachel's office.

| How do I send a fax/make a phone call/photocopy? |
- You can obtain a Photocopy card from the Maths department to use their photcopier
in room 610 of the maths dept.
- There is no fax machine at CoMPLEX
- The telephone in the students rooms does not make outside calls. Please use the public
phones around the campus. In an emergency see Rachel

| When is my stipend due? |
Stipend payments are due on 22nd December, 30th March and the 30th June. Unless you have completed the Studentship Bank Account Details form, you will be paid by cheque, which should be collected from the student finance section of the Registry. |

| How do I get stationery and supplies? |
- You can obtain printer paper from the dept. of Mathematics room 610. There is a small stock
of stationery in Wolfson House room 206.
- Printer Toner has to be ordered. Please let Rachel know before it runs out.

| I need a book/some software/some other purchase, which I feel
is relevant to the course. Can this be purchased through CoMPLEX? |

| I have a lecture from 10-11am in WoHo and one from 11-12 over in Anatomy. What am I supposed to do? Fly? |
Although lectures are timetabled for an hour they are supposed to start at five past the hour and end at five to. This should leave you ten minutes to amble around between lectures. |
| how does the library system work? |
- Library services page here. Don't forget to check out the resources
available - Athens, e-journals & books etc.
- You have to obtain a bar-code, which is attached to your college i.d. to use the library (you'll do this during induction week.) For details of
how to do this, how to borrow books, the library catalogue and lots of other library
details, including fines for overdue books (high!), see this library page.

| How much time off can I take? Do I have to come in every day? Can I work
while studying? |
You must attend timetabled events, your presence/absence will
be noted. In general, it is up to you to organise yourself in such a way that
you make the most of the course. If you intend to take a couple of weeks off
it's best to run it past Rob or Guy, or if you are a PhD student past your supervisor. The EPSRC guidelines allow for no more than 8 weeks including public holidays. |
| how do I find out about events at UCL? |

| There's a conference I'm interested in attending. Will CoMPLEX contribute
to the cost? |
Maybe, if relevant to the course and at a suitable time. Ask Rachel or Hugh
to clarify with course management.
You should first try to obtain funding through the Graduate School conference fund. NB we are part of the MAPs faculty.

| I've moved house |
You can input your address and other personal details via the UCL website. Go to the Portico site to update your details, you need your main UCL userid [eg ucbpxxx] and your
password to access Portico. |
| Can I come in at weekends or when the college is closed? |
Yes, however, you must sign in and out of the 'out of hours' book
in the foyer if you are in after 7pm, at the weekend or during 'college closed' days.
Failure to do so will lead to withdrawal of this privelege. |
| Any useful web pages on the UCL site not already detailed? |

| On what grounds can I obtain an extension on a deadline to
hand in work?

- Extensions will only be permitted in exceptional circumstances,
and must be agreed in advance with Rob or Guy.
- There are severe penalties for handing work in late - 5%(compound) for each working day
or part thereof.
- Students are expected to plan their time sensibly, and take appropriate
precautions to back-up and safeguard their work. In most cases, computer
failures, virus infections or similar will not be regarded as sufficient
excuse for late submission.

| What about social life. Bars, sports etc. |
- Go to The UCL Union site They have a comprehensive list of clubs and facilities available to you.
- Also look at the ULU site, which gives details of UCL shops
and also insurance, travel and phone deals and much, much more.

| I need a council tax exemption form. |

| I've lost my college i.d. card/access card |
This link deals with i.d. cards and access cards. You will have to obtain a form from the CoMPLEX office to get a new access card. |
